PORPA gathered to ring out 2025 and ring in 2026! Only, instead of bells for ringing, it was Erwin playing his accordion for all to enjoy and sing along! Food, friends, new and known, feasted, lit the tannabaum, shared memories of the PORPA Sprints, the free swim lessons, some wonderful rowing, and exchanged a bevy of homemade gifts! We took a moment to remember our dear friend and all around kind person DC. He will be greatly missed as a vital and enthusiastic member of PORPA. Always a lovely time...
Erwin M. fixes broken rib on the Vespoli 4. (I figured out how to orient the photos- so Im sending this post out agian so you can see this great work! :) In early January, Erwin (with some help from Gayne), removed a cracked rib from the Vespoli 4 PORPA is borrowing from Spokane River Rowing and replaced it. The Vespoli straight four (without coxswain), borrowed from the Spokane River Rowing Association, is getting some good meters in. For the past two weekends, the bucket rigged sweep boat took PORPA members upriver to Thama Shores and back (about 9000 meters). When the set is good and the rating is together, this boat sings! The Pend Oreille Rowing & Paddling Association’s fourth PORPA Sprints on the Priest River brought more youth participants to this great day of human-powered racing and celebration than ever before. Twenty-three youth under 17 participated in paddling and rowing events; each receiving a free t-shirt courtesy of PORPA’s generous sponsors (Aerocet, Mary's Feed, Eagle's Nest Motel, Selkirk Ace Hardware, Priest River Ace Hardware, Synergy Design Studios inc.Mitches Foods, and Elsaesser Anderson) . PORPA celebrated 10 years since putting our first boat on the water at Riley Creek on the Pend Oreille River today 13 July! 12 rowers, 3 boats, 1 paddler, watermelon, unveiling of new Salish language names for our HW double and quad, new and original rowers, great coxing in and out of the "boat basin", and two sweep virgins no longer!
