Nine POPRA members enyoyed a training row on the calm waters of the Pend Oreille this first Saturday of a spectacular Inland NW September. From bow: Gayne, Stan, Doug (1st time sweep), Okju, Erwin, Curt, Peggy, Val and cox Jace, rowed as fours, sixes and 2K all eight. We even rowed thoruhg some pretty rolling wakes. Not bad for the first big boat outing in two years! PORPA thanks the US Army Corps of Engineers for partnering with us to develop the sandy, shallow, and gradual non-motortized boat launch area...

The 2020 Warren Foersch award was presented during our New Year’s zoom toast meeting. The plaque and individual trophy was given to the persons that were the recipients of the award. Val, Riley and Jace Thompson were the ones chosen by the committee this year. They showed their commitment to the sport of rowing by having the highest number of registrations in our system and showing the most improvement in their rowing abilities, the boys learning to row in singles and also in a double with Val. Thanks to Sheila for writing this press release which made it to several local newspapers. 2020 posed many challenges for rowing clubs everywhere. Using the USR owing guidelines, PORPA members adapted and continued to row in 2020. New guidelines allowed individuals to row single shells with double shells reserved for multi-member family rowers. Aditionally PORPA adjusted membership fees to better serve member ’s budgets through financial uncertanty . As the season is winding down, we did manage to get two outings to Spirit Lake. The first one was just before the snow storm and the second one after the snow cleared and we got some sun. The first one was with Okju on the Star, Erwin on the Maas and Gayne with her newly acquired Peinert 26 (now known as the Kaniksu).
