PORPA News for the 2024 Season

20 April- PORPA will retrieve our big boats form the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in Coeur d Alene and assist CdA rowing in getting their boats moved from the fairgrounds to Lake Fernan. Even though it has been a rainy/cold day for the past few years, we also have fun working together to move our precious equipment out of winter storage! Help is always welcome, contact Gayne at 509-671-0625.

8-9 June- Annual Boat maintenance days and general meeting. Time to clean out and repair and maintain or equipment while renewing friendships and have a great time at the beautiful home of Erwin and Okju. More information coming.

Scheduled rowing days will likely start soon after our maintenance weekend (river flow dependent), see important note below re change in rowing venue for at least a month.

13 July marks PORA’s 10th Anniversary! We are planning a PARTY!

3 August- PORPA Sprints on the Priest River: Annual fun races for all non-motorized water craft! Youth are always free due to generous donations from local businesses and individuals. If you know of a business/individual who would like to make a donation to help pay for free youth registration please text Gayne a 509-671-0625 (she will send a letter to the possible donor with more specifics).

August 6-22 PORPA and Long Bridge Swim Association swim lessons. Free for all children. Registration and more information at https://www.priestriverswimlessons.com/

Important Note: The Army Corps of Engineers is repaving and completing other maintenance at the Priest River Recreation Area (Mudhole). The site is closed to use from now till mid-July. PORPA is working with the Corps to devise some solutions for the PORPA rowing activities, PORPA Sprints and the swim lessons in case the work gets delayed. More to come on this at our annual meeting on 9 June.

The Corps of Engineers have offered PORPA space at the Riley Creek Day Use area (abut 10 miles east of Priest River near LaClede) to store and launch our rowing shells until the Mudhole can reopen. It will take us back to PORPA's original launching site. Early morning rowing is especially wonderful on the Pend Oreille River from here!
